eBay Store Design Terms

SPECIFIC TO eBAY SELLERS

ABOUT ME PAGE: An About Me page is a free web page offered by eBay to all sellers. It’s your opportunity to further explain your business, showcase your expertise in your product line or a way to help promote trust & confidence with potential buyers.

CONTENT PAGE / STORE PAGE: Content pages are additional web pages offered to eBay store owners. eBay offers anywhere from 5 – 15 content pages depending on your store level store subscription. They are best used to further explain your policies, provide FAQs or expand upon your product line’s niche.

eBAY BANNER: While many eBay sellers refer to this as a “logo”, it’s actually a web banner. An eBay banner is a fixed-size (310x90 pixels) whereas a true logo can be scaled to any size a business owner may need.

LEFT-HAND NAVIGATION: This is the eBay store section that displays all your store categories, store pages, search box & two promotional boxes. This navigation was designed to grow with you – adding when you need to add, deleting when you need to remove.

PROMOTION BOX: A promotion box is a seller’s opportunity to market aspects of their store or services. eBay offers sellers two spots to place eBay tailored or customized promotion boxes: above your auction listings & below the left-hand navigation.

STORE HEADER: This eBay store section spans the top of your store pages, your auctions & your About Me page.

STORE HOME PAGE: Just like the front page on any off-eBay website, a store home page is the central face to your eBay store & it’s counted among the number of content pages eBay provides. For example, basic store level subscribers can have up to 5 pages (1 store home page & 4 content pages) which does not include your About Me page.

TEMPLATE GRAPHIC: A template graphic is a static image to be inserted at the top of your auction template to further your company branding. For budget conscious sellers, SittingBoo offers two versions of a template graphic: one with HTML navigation (to your about me page, contact me, newsletter sign-up, etc.) and one without.

General Design Terms

TERMS THAT APPLY ACROSS THE BOARD

COLOR PALETTE: Similar to the paint strips you can pick-up at the hardware store, a color palette is a list of the colors used in your design along with their coded numbers for use in various applications: online, in professional printing or in MS office products.

PHOTO HOST: In order to display images over the web, they need to be uploaded onto a web server. If you have your own domain name & web host, your eBay store design images can be hosted there. If not, there are several free photo hosts to choose from – for example, Photobucket.

VECTOR LOGO: A vector logo is the one & only true logo & is not to be confused with an eBay banner. ‘Vector’ means that your designed logo can be scaled to any size you could possibly ever need or use. For example, blowing it up for use on a road-side billboard or shrunken down to fit on a postage stamp – all without any distortion in the design. Because of the multiple usage capabilities, vector logos are priced higher & be purchased separately from any of the eBay store packages.

*Please keep in mind that in order for you to use the vector logo file you will need access to a graphic design program such as Photoshop or Illustrator.
